About the Role

Our client, a global leader in the fashion industry, is seeking a seasoned and strategic Product Development & Sourcing Manager to lead their South African PD & Sourcing team. This is an exciting opportunity for a results-driven professional to oversee end-to-end product lifecycle management—from concept to shelf—while optimizing sourcing strategies for cost, quality, and speed-to-market.


Key Responsibilities

Lead the execution of seasonal product programs, ensuring timely and quality delivery aligned with brand standards.
Develop short- and long-term sourcing strategies that support both global brand direction and local market needs.
Oversee contractor compliance with company and legal standards, conduct supplier evaluations and performance reviews.
Deliver high-level customer service by resolving problems swiftly and proposing creative, market-informed solutions.
Forecast production and supply needs; manage production planning in collaboration with merchandising and sales teams.
Maintain accurate inventory levels through rigorous forecasting and planning.
Monitor cost targets, margins, and KPIs; work closely with the Sourcing Director on OPEX tracking and cost-saving initiatives.
Mentor and develop a small team to maintain high engagement and productivity levels.
Collaborate cross-functionally with logistics, supply planning, manufacturing, and commercial operations teams

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

Tertiary Degree/Diploma in Manufacturing, Engineering, Sourcing, or a related field.
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in product development and sourcing—ideally in the apparel or fashion industry.
Proven ability to manage supplier relationships across local and international markets.
Key Competencies:

Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and contracting abilities.
Capable of independent decision-making and cross-functional collaboration.
Skilled in cost analysis, inventory forecasting, and operational planning.
Hands-on experience with global systems (e.g., SAP, DaVinci, Costing tools).

Additional Information

Direct Reports: 2–3 team members
Travel: Approximately 10% annually
Work Conditions: Expect longer hours during seasonal development peaks
