Job Description

About the Role

We’re recruiting on behalf of a global fashion powerhouse for a Product Developer (Tops) to join their dynamic Product Development team in South Africa. If you're passionate about driving innovation in denim, non-denim, and knitwear—and thrive in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment—this is a career-defining opportunity for you.

You’ll manage the full development cycle from prototype to final approval, ensure alignment with global standards, and collaborate with both local and international stakeholders to bring high-quality, fashion-forward tops to market.

Key Responsibilities

Drive all Go-To-Market (GTM) calendar development activities, ensuring deadlines and milestones are met.
Manage the Tops portfolio across denim, non-denim, and knits—from sampling to finish approvals.
Collaborate with internal teams (merchandising, planning, commercial) and external vendor partners.
Approve finishes, lab dips, strike-offs, and fabric qualities to align with global and local requirements.
Oversee the sample process (raising POs, tracking, GRN processing) and ensure timely delivery.
Handle all costing with vendors and propose alternatives to meet FOB targets.
Manage critical paths with vendors and escalate any quality or testing issues to the relevant teams.
Maintain system updates via SAP, PLM, and internal tools in accordance with GTM calendar.
Ensure data accuracy in tracking tools and submit weekly reports on progress and compliance.
Provide technical support on fabrics and ensure quality standards are met at every stage.
Lead key meetings and proactively manage development obstacles with creative solutions.
Foster strong, professional relationships with global stakeholders and local manufacturers.

Requirements

Qualifications:

National Diploma or Degree in Textile Technology or equivalent.

Experience:

3–5 years’ experience in garment/product development (preferably within the fashion/apparel industry).

Core Competencies:

Excellent communication, planning, and time management skills.
Deep understanding of fabric construction and testing requirements.
Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.
Financially savvy with the ability to align costing to business objectives.
Comfortable with fast-paced, multi-project environments.
High level of accountability and ownership.
Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills.
Culturally aware with a global mindset.
